DESTIHL is an independent, privately-owned company, and our plan is simple: to continue raising the bar whenever and wherever possible.
DESTIHL was founded on the promise of supporting flavor and boycotting bland.
We opened our first gastrobrewpub™ (DESTIHL Restaurant & Brew Works) in Normal, Illinois, on November 23, 2007. Located in a stand alone building at the Shoppes at College Hills, DESTIHL Restaurant & Brew Works offers a bold, new take on the traditional brewpub dining experience. Despite the Great Recession that hit soon after opening, DESTIHL Restaurant & Brew Works became a great success, prompting us to open a second location in downtown Champaign, IL on April 20, 2011. In that same year, we received affirmation that our brewing techniques were on the right track when we took 10 of our beers to the Great American Beer Fest® in Denver, CO. Within thirty minutes into the event, we went from being a brand no one knew on a national level to one of the most talked about breweries of the year and in the years that followed.
So, following much success with both brewpubs, winning several major awards for our beer and garnering much distributor and retailer demand for our beer, we directed our attention and energy toward growing the brewery operations of DESTIHL. By May 2013, DESTIHL Brewery was finally launched in the G.E. Warehouses in Bloomington, IL, and after filling oak barrels for the first few months, the brewery sold its first beer in August 2013.
Since its opening, the production brewery has been recognized and honored by numerous craft beer industry insiders, organizations and competitions. To name just a few, DESTIHL Brewery has been named a “Breweries to Watch” by Draft Magazine, has won 3 medals at the Great American Beer Festival® in Denver, has won multiple medals and Best in Show & Runner-Up Best in Show accolades at the National Wood-Aged Beer Competition at the Festival of Barrel-Aged Beer in Chicago, and has been included in “186 of the Best Beers in the World” by All About Beer magazine.
It was quickly recognized by the end of 2015 that there was more demand for DESTIHL beer than could possibly be produced at the G.E. Warehouse production facility, so in June 2016, construction began on DESTIHL Brewery’s 47,000 sq. ft., $15 million-dollar complex in Normal, IL, on about 6 acres of land. Brewery operations ceased at the G.E. Road facility in March of 2017, and the new brewery was commissioned by April 2017. The new brewery and Beer Hall then opened to the public on May 27, 2017.
The success of DESTIHL Restaurant & Brew Works continues today, and the two locations are often recognized by various media outlets in each of their operating markets as being the top culinary destination. DESTIHL’s brewpubs remain as the highest-rated restaurants in Normal, IL and Champaign, IL by several travel/online visitor review sites. Meanwhile, DESTIHL Brewery continues to receive accolades and awards, always strives to remain on the forefront of developing bold, even industry-changing new beers and is rapidly growing in volume, sales and new markets, both nationally and now internationally.
